MQM's terms for talks with ARD
LAHORE, Dec 31: Former Muttahida Qaumi Movement senator Aftab Shaikh said on Sunday that the MQM would formally meet the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy leaders at 'Nine Zero' on Tuesday at 7pm only if the ARD president, Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, formally constituted a committee for talks and announced their names through the press.

He spelled out the precondition when PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Faheem contacted him on Sunday to fix a date and time for the meeting.

The PPP leader immediately apprised the ARD president in Lahore about the precondition. Mr Khan, consequently, nominated PPP senior vice-chairman Makhdoom Amin and ANP president Asfandyar Wali.

They would also take along some Karachi leaders of their respective parties with them.

He also contacted PML acting president Javed Hashmi and asked him to nominate somebody for talks on behalf of the alliance.

The veteran politician said with a PML representative also joining the team, almost all important ARD components would get representation in the talks.

Mr Khan told reporters that he would call a meeting of the ARD after talks between the alliance and the Muttahida.

Muslim League is Britishers' brainchild, says Altaf

KARACHI: Muslim League was the brainchild of the Britishers, which was meant for dividing India into different parts. Chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Husain stated this while addressing an Eid Milan organised by the UK wing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Sunday.

Altaf Husain said people from different religions were united in their struggle against the British Raj prior to the set-up of Muslim Legaue, but the British were not in the mood to grant freedom to united India, therefore, they used the formula of divide and rule and paid Rs100,000 to Nawab Salimullah Khan to set up the party. The party Chief said that there is no such movement in the world, which has been oganised and participated by the Nawabs, and princes, except Muslim League.

NEW YEAR: The Muttahida chief, in a separate message expressed New Year greetings to the people of Pakistan, especially the minorities living in the country. He prayed for a miracle to happen, which might solve the problems faced by the country's poor.

Muttahida condemns

KARACHI: Armed terrorism in Orangi Town is a conspiracy for creating sectarian violence. Muttahida Qaumi Movement said this in a statement on Saturday and condemned involving Muttahida workers in the act. Meanwhile Senator Nasreen Jaleel visited Civil Hospital to inquire about the health of injured person in the bomb blast, which took place in Saddar on Friday night.
