Custodial' killing condemned

KARACHI: President Awami National Party (Central) Asfandyar Wali Khan, has strongly condemned the alleged torture and killing of a Pakhtoon citizen, Jason Khan, in police custody. He said police were misusing their powers on the pretext of investigation and inquiry. He, along with ANP leaders Farooq Bangash, Shamman Khan, Sakhi Sarwar, Saeed Khan and Rana Gul Afridi visited the bereaved family, expressed deep sympathy and demanded of the govt for action against killers and for compensation to the bereaved family.

KARACHI: Two brothers were gunned down and five others including constable received bullet wounds in two different incidents on Friday. Syed Ali Zada, 37, and his younger brother Noor Zada, 28, owners of a 'Thalla' received bullet wounds, when Haji Gul Baz and Sartaj barged into their residence in Zaman Town police limits and opened fire on them.

The area people took both the injured to JPMC in critical condition where they died. According to the police, the deceased had kidnapped one Bakht Meena, daughter of Mumtaz Khan, in Peshawar a few years back. Mumtaz Khan and his brothers, Haji Gul Baz and Sartaj later found Bakht Meena and killed her, however, Syed Ali Zada and his brother Noor Zada had managed to escape.

On Friday Haji Gul Baz and Sartaj found both of them and shot them dead. Constable Tasleem Rana, posted in Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station, his wife Nadira, MQM Unit incharge Tahir and his two workers Zaki and Sharafat received bullet wounds in exchange of fire at Sector 36/G in Landhi police jurisdiction. The area police reached the spot and took all the injured to JPMC for treatment. According to the police, the clash was the result of some family dispute between them.

TJP launches protest campaign
MULTAN, Jan 5: The Tehrik-i-Jafria Pakistan, after a long wait, launched a protest drive on Friday against the government on its failure to arrest the killers of TJP activists.

Addressing a Majlis-i-Aza to mark the death anniversary of 17 people of Karamdad Qureshi, Muzaffargarh, TJP chief Allama Sajid Naqvi said the military regime had disappointed the nation.

He alleged that the government had failed to stop the influx of terrorists into Pakistan from Afghanistan. They had established their training camps in Afghanistan where they had been trained in the guise of freedom fighters.

Allama Naqvi stressed the need for changing the existing system of investigation and immediate removal of DSP Habib Khan and his trial for making misleading and wrong investigations into the incidents of Mondka and Karamdad Qureshi in which 24 people were killed.

He said TJP delegations called on the chief executive and pointed out a number of shortcomings in the existing system due to which sectarianism spread. He said the CE had assured them to reform the present system.

NAB filed 28 corruption cases in three months
ISLAMABAD, Jan 5: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the last three months filed 28 references against corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and retired personnel of armed forces on various charges of corruption.

The bureau filed these references at a rate of one reference every third day, said a quarterly report issued by the NAB on Friday.

Of the total eight references were filed in the accountability courts in Lahore; against corrupt bureaucrats and politicians and retired personnel of armed forces.

Two references were filed against Rana Nazir Ahmed, ex- MNA on charges of accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income and misuse of authority.

Chaudhry Abdul Hameed, ex-mayor municipal corporation, is being tried on charges of corruption and corrupt practices.

Four other references have been filed against Colonel (retd) Tariq Ehtisham, ex-project director, Elite Police Training School, Maqsood Bashir, Muhammad Rauf Khalid and Muhammad Afzal and Malik Mushtaq Ahmed Awan on charges of embezzlement in government funds and corruption.

Eight references have been filed in the accountability courts in Karachi. Four references have been filed against Usman Farooqi and others on charges of corruption and corrupt practices.

References have also been filed against Maqbool Shah, ex provincial minister on charges of misuse of authority in which the accused illegally transported wheat causing a loss of Rs 13.8 million to the national exchequer.

Khush Mohammad Bhutto ex-General Manager PTCL is also being tried in an accountability court on charges of accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.

An former district food controller, Muhammad Siddiq Gakhar, is being tried on charges of illegal transportation of wheat in which the accused caused a huge loss to the national exchequer.

A reference has also been filed against a MCB Manager Amanullah Khan and 46 other for embezzlement of money.

In the accountability courts of Quetta five new references have been filed. A reference has been filed against former secretary food, Abdul Aziz Lasi, on charges of misappropriation of wheat in which he caused a loss of Rs150 million to the national exchequer.

Ali Ahmed Baloch, a bureaucrat is being tried on charges of accumulation of huge assets beyond known sources of income.

Faiq Ali Jamali is being tried for embezzlement of Bait ul Maal funds. A reference has been filed against another provincial minister, Bismillah Khan Kakar, on charges of misuse of government vehicles.

An e-director, primary schools, Rasheed Anjum is being tried for 534 illegal appointments in schools in which he caused a loss of Rs8.3 million rupees to the national exchequer.

In the accountability courts of Peshawa, four separate references have been filed against Hamid Maghfoor Shah, bureaucrat, Javed Iqbal Abbasi, politician and Muhammad Akbar Marwat on charges of accumulation of huge assets beyond known sources of income.

Two references have been filed in the accountability courts of Rawalpindi. These references have been filed against Zakim Khan and Khizar Hayat.

In Attock, former federal minister Azam Khan Hoti is being tried in accountability court No 1 on charges of accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.-APP
