Pir Pagara sees masses-govt confrontation

KHAIRPUR: Chief of Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) Pir Pagara has said the economic crisis is likely to cause confrontation between the masses and the armed forces. Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, Pir Pagara said that Moinuddin Haider would never bring any law against politicians.

He said that Pakistan People's Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement might enter into an alliance just to tackle the pressure from the armed forces. However, the same alliance would not be long-lasting, he added. The PML-F chief said that the exile of Nawaz Sharif is unconstitutional and immoral. "There is no guarantee that Nawaz will not take part in politics in future," he said.

"Benazir is from Punjab because her elders belonged to Lahore, but she claims herself to be daughter of Sindh," he said, adding that the Pakistani jails are waiting for her. "As and when she returns, she will have to enter a Nawaz-like deal with the government," he predicted.

He said the process of accountability is slow and dissatisfactory. He said that the third world countries were condemning the role of IMF because of its cruel policies. He said that the present government could not give relief to Sindh. He said PML-F has no plans to take part in local bodies elections.

TJP protest meeting banned
PESHAWAR, Jan 7: The Tehreek-i-Jaffaria Pakistan has postponed its protest meeting, after it was banned by the administration. The meeting was scheduled here on Sunday till the release of TJP chief Allama Sajid Ali Naqvi, who was not allowed to enter the city on Saturday and to attend the Chehlum of his general secretary, Anwar Ali Akhunzada, killed a month ago in Peshawar.

The Frontier police had detained Allama Naqvi for six hours in Nowshehra and later handed over him to the Punjab police. He is said to have been placed under house arrest at his residence in Rawalpindi. However, Syed Raziuddin Razi, the acting TJP general secretary, whose entry had also been banned to Peshawar, has succeeded in arriving in the city.

The district administration didn't allow TJP followers to hold a protest meeting near the residence of Akhunzada. A heavy contingent of the police had been positioned on Church Road to stop the follower from holding the meeting or taking out a procession.

Some activists of the TJP chanted slogans against the officials present on the occasion.

Later, talking to newsmen at the residence of Akhunzada, TJP provincial chief, Allama Ramzan Tauqir, criticised the attitude of the district administration."Their (administration) attitude was unjust and cruel. Our Chehlum is peaceful, but they want to create disturbance", he alleged.

He said that till the decision of party high-command, they had postponed the protest, but shortly they would announce a protest programme against the attitude of the administration.

He asked the government to immediately arrest the killers of Akhunzada. He regret

A large number of TJP workers arrived here from different districts of Punjab and attended the Chehlum ceremony. Despite tension that gripped the area, no untoward incident occurred.
